Update: the RoamLetter is not active anymore.

I keep this page only for reference, but the “subscription” buttons redirect to my “normal” newsletter.

The newsletter format has stagnated for the last 20 years. We receive more and more of them, but remember less and less.

Think about your favorite newsletter.
Can you remember the contents of the issue-before-the-last-one?

Reading them is entertaining, but does little towards building a permanent body of knowledge we can stand on top.

Hence why I decided to create the RoamLetter.

The RoamLetter: The Future of Newsletters

It is a weekly email that gives you timeless blocks that you can use to build your model of the world. Literally. (How? Keep reading).

First of all, I personally write all the content. I am the author of 7 books and well-known to focus on clear and timeless concepts. I write paragraphs that will be relevant for decades.

Second, the RoamLetter fully leverages Roam Research. Here is how it works. (You do not have Roam? I also have a non-Roam version of this newsletter.)

A Roam-based newsletter

Attached to each email, you will find a Roam file. Roam Research is an application that allows you to build your own “personal wikipedia” of interconnected information. You can import the file into your Roam graph.

The contents of my RoamLetter seamlessly integrate and link with the contents of your body of knowledge. They become available for further research and note-taking. Never before the expression “download information to your brain” has been more literal!

The newsletter is written so that its editions link with each other and with the information you wrote. For example, let’s say that in today’s article I write a paragraph on Amazon and e-Commerce. If you have other articles on Amazon in your Roam graph, my essay will link to them, and they will link to it. Moreover, two weeks later I can publish a new article referencing the past one, and it will also reference the notes you took two weeks ago. It all fits together!

(In the example below, you can see how clicking on the “Amazon” link from today’s edition of the RoamLetter instantly links to all other tagged instances of Amazon in other editions and in your notes. Magic!)

Automatic links in the RoamLetter

Another advantage of a newsletter written to be read in Roam is that the content is nested. You can easily skip what you’re not interested in, and dig deeper into what matters for you, without feeling like you’re missing something.

If you do not want to import the content of my RoamLetter into your graph, no worries. You will have access to the read-only version of the RoamLetter graph, which includes all past editions.

Finally, Roam is constantly adding new features. I plan to take advantage of all opportunities they can offer to better use and communicate knowledge. By subscribing to my RoamLetter, you get a seat at the forefront of innovation.

(By the way, I also published the first Roam Book ever, and I am currently writing the second one. You can learn more about them at roam-books.com)

What if I do not have Roam?

I have a non-Roam version, here.

What’s the content about?

I mainly write about business, management, complexity, and personal growth.

You can expect my weekly emails to contain:

  • An in-depth essay.
  • A review of 2-4 articles or papers published recently, with my comments.
  • A review of the best tweets and thoughts I came across during the previous week, with my comments.
  • An eventual chapter preview from my upcoming books.

A look inside

The Roamletter contains two to five essays a week
The RoamLetter's essays are commented
The RoamLetter contains the best ideas and quotes
The RoamLetter contains news, fun bites, and prompts

Spaced repetition

I am a strong believer in spaced repetition to better remember important concepts. A Roam-native newsletter allows you to easily integrate into spaced-repetition tools, or to tag items for spaced repetition inside Roam itself.

Moreover, every 3 months, you will receive a Roam file with the references to the most important articles I published in the newsletter – so that you can review them at your own pace.
